In The Space Between
I believe that all sincere writing is on the other side of undoing. I believe it’s the most potent when you are in the space between.

A Prologue
For several years now, the big water has been calling me. It has become my muse. First, Lake Michigan, she called me to come home. That summer I birthed Late July, my first self-published book. I continued writing Late July the following year, writing as I hiked and trained my way across Northern Spain with my then fiance. This summer, I knew that the big water I needed to sit with was in Washington, the Puget Sound. I took my work on the road with me, and booked 10 weeks of dog-sitting gigs in all the areas I wanted to see most.
It became one of the hardest and most fulfilling summers of my life. Between the time I planned the summer and the time I flew out to Seattle, the entire landscape had changed. My fiance and I had broken up, and I was entirely on my own. What I had envisioned as an adventure towards our future, had become an epic solo trip. I also discovered that I had become a woman who is more accepting and more capable of surrender, than ever before. A dear girlfriend of mine says it was a gift, earned from my brother’s death. I think she’s absolutely right.
This week as I fly back to Austin, I’m looking forward to many things. And the first, is to sharing this new book of poetry with you. I am calling it - In The Space Between. As I’ve done before, I will be releasing one chapter a week, every Sunday.
I look forward to the synergistic and unexpected alignment that comes from releasing these pieces not in real-time but as they wanted to be released. I look forward to hearing what lands with you, or what it sparks in your own journey. Here’s to the beauty and healing we find in our own acts of creation.
An Introduction
I believe that all sincere writing is on the other side of undoing. I believe it’s the most potent when you are in the space between. Lacking the easy confidence that comes with familiar places, and people. I believe our stories speak most clearly to others, when we don’t know the outcome yet.
In The Space Between is a collection of poems that were true in the moment when they were written. And for that reason, they always will be true. Some were written this summer, from the beautiful coastal places I explored in Washington State. Some were written in the past years, and are now ready to be shared. All of them lay bare the through-lines of my mind and heart, who I am and who I am becoming. They are full of longing, heartbreak, failure, creation, love, and the search for home.
This is the story of seasons, in the space between. May they free you to search and savor in your own way, at your own pace, and without judgement.
If you are a subscriber, you’ll see the pieces in your inbox every Sunday. If you aren’t, I’d love to have you join.
Onward,
Liz
